In this article, we study the ongoing redevelopment of post-war, modernist residential area Rosengård, located in Sweden’s third biggest city Malmö. We show how a planning and design strategy for has come to focus on ‘compact city’ typology line with Malmö’s creating ‘near, dense, green mixed city’. Such compact emphasizes high density, urbanity, proximity mixed-use as key values renewal, but also threatens spaces areas designated densification.
